Barnard Castle is, in my opinion, one of the friendliest towns in Britain! For whatever reason you almost can't fail to get into conversations and enjoy the wry humour of the locals. On this occasion I was stopping at the Caravan Club site which is only about 3/4 of a mile from the town centre - unfortunately it's a 1/10 hill down from the site and then the same (or steeper) up into the town!
As usual my main aim was visiting railways - and as the so-called birthplace it's an ideal area for this. I did do a few other things as well, some of which are covered below.
