Stephenson Railway Museum
and the North Tyneside Railway

Inevitably there are several railway museums in the North East, given how much railway history started there. The Stephenson Museum is operated by Tyne & Wear Museum service. Entry is free. It's quite a small collection, but does have some interesting exhibits.

The North Tyneside Steam Railway operates from the museum, although it's technically a separate association. It's not very long and, as can be seen from the picture, it doesn't run through very pretty scenery, although in some ways that makes it more interesting. It's friendly though (as is the museum) in the way that some larger operations seem to have forgotten about.
