Stainmore Railway

This is a slightly atypical preserved railway at Kirkby Stephen. I visited on a horrible, wet, miserable day which probably didn't help, and they didn't really seem all that geared up to visitors. I had a pleasant walk round the station where they were working at various jobs though, and a couple of chats. All very friendly at the end of the day.

One oddity, shown in the photos, was a small diesel work-car, nothing odd about it except that the drive mechanism consisted of a fibre plate perpendicular to the metal drive plate - reversing was achieved by simply sliding it from one side to the other!
