Tanfield Railway

This claims to be, "The oldest existing railway in the world". It does have a history back to 1725 so it's quite a strong claim! it started as a waggonway some 75 years before the first steam locomotives.

It was a reasonable day out, and friendly as always. Any visit should also include the Causey Arch (the world's oldest railway bridge). I actually "did" the railway then drove back up to Causey so the pics may appear slightly out of sequence. The railway normally goes on a bit further but a landslip means they currently terminate at Causey.

Their website is at http://www.tanfieldrailway.co.uk
