Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway
This is the highest preserved railway in Wales! It's a small, but
interesting, railway with 3 stops, however there's quite a bit of waiting around
as the train goes from Furnace Sidings to Big Pit, back to Furnace Sidings, then
to Whistle Inn, back to Blaenavon High Level and then back to Furnace Sidings -
4 intermediate stops in a 4 mile round trip!
I was fortunate enough to visit during their World War Two heritage weekend,
unfortunately I wasn't so lucky with the weather so there aren't a lot of
pictures.
The Railway's website is at

The train was run by two former industrial locos - they don't have run-around facilities so this is the only practical way of running.
At one point he left the wheel (whilst still moving) and dived over to the other side of the cab to have a look out!
it's only about 10 minutes down into the town - but it's not called the High Level for nothing, it's a long pull back up the hill! They are working on improving the facilities, hence the building work.
Actually a very convincing mock-up of a crashed plane.
