This is the reverse view of one from the day before.
I'm not convinced by the glass frontage but it was pleasant to sit there for meals and watch the world go by
Apparently it's the tallest building in Glasgow
If this was a coincidence or if the person who came up with the name used to watch Captain Scarlet when younger.
The Destiny Church. This ultra modern building is very near Glasgow Cathedral.
There were too many people waiting for me to go round the Cathedral itself so I contented myself with a wander round the precincts.
The paintings on this building were fantastic. It's part of the University of Strathclyde.
There's no question that James Watt kick-started the steam revolution by taking Newcomen's engine and massively improving the efficiency. On the other hand his (and Matthew Boulton's) aggressive marketing and patent protection then held back development of high pressure steam for many years.
That's a real, full size loco on the first floor.

The museum is a fantastic piece of civil engineering in itself. You'd think these were toys but it's a wall of full size cars.
A steel 3-masted barque built in 1896 for the Glen Line, then part of Archibald, Sterling & Co of Glasgow. My dad later sailed on Glen Line ships under the ownership of Alfred Holt.
They didn't wear safety gear to climb the masts at the start of the 20th Century.
Long before Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins, etc. there was Graham Obree. Known, inevitably, as The Flying Scotsman he twice broke the world hour record on his own built bike. The original is in the National Museum in Edinburgh - these are two replicas built for the biographical film.

These used to be a part of the MOT test. It's not many years since I worked for the successors to VL Churchill who made it. We still serviced and calibrated these for the MOD. Calibration was hit-and-miss as you'd rarely get the same reading twice.
There was just time to take short walk from the hotel before dinner. Arrochar is at the head of Lock Long, pictured are two of my holiday companions.
