Locomotion (the NRM at Shildon)
and SMRC Show

Shildon is another of those "birthplaces" of railways, in this case it was the home of Timothy Hackworth, whose Sans Pareil was probably the main contender to Stephenson's Locomotion at the Rainhill trials. In more recent times Shildon was famous for its wagon works. I timed my visit to take in a model railway show as well!

I found the museum slightly disappointing. The model railway show got in the way a bit, but it's basically a very simple collection. There was an opportunity of a ride to the other end of the site though where there is a bit more to see.

The museum website is at http://www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/VisitShildon
