Grosmont, Monmouthshire 2012

Grosmont (http://www.grosmont.org)  is a small village just inside Wales (about 1/2 a mile from England). I can thoroughly recommend the Angel Inn (owned by a consortium of residents), which is very friendly and serves an excellent pint. The village is surrounded by castles, originally built by The Normans, as it lies in a very strategic location.

It proved an excellent base for visiting South Wales, Herefordshire and the Forest of Dean (which was my intended destination before I discovered how high the campsite fees were).

My main aim, as usual, was to visit a few railways - in particular the Dean Forest as that is the area my own model layout is set in. In the end I found a couple more to visit than I expected!

The weather for the holiday was a bit variable - hot bright sunshine occasionally and plenty of rain the rest of the time.
